Sileby Community Library has been run as a local charity by a dedicated team of volunteers since 2015. We are reliant on people giving up their time to be able to open and provide this vital service for our village. If you can spare a few hours each month to volunteer in the library or become a trustee of our charity, please get in touch!

We want to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful team of volunteers who enable us to open week in week out! You are all stars and the village, and of course us at the library, are incredibly lucky to have you!

Meet some of our amazing volunteers and hear more about why they love being involved:

Annette and Sue (L-R) volunteer every other Friday morning and Annette looks after our volunteer rotas. They are both part of our event planning group.

Both retired in recent years, they like meeting people, building a rapport with customers and getting to know regulars as well as giving back to their community.

Sue is passionate about reading actual books and enjoys organising children’s events to get children in the library and interested in reading.

Annette was surprised at the range of services we offer – not just books.

Karyn enjoys volunteering every other Thursday 4-6 with Annette and has done for over 5 years.

Karyn feels the library is important for the community. She visited the library as a child and always said she wanted to work in a library so has achieved her dream!

Karyn works at a local primary school and loves seeing the children from school come in to share her passion for reading.

Janice and Sue (L-R) volunteer on Monday mornings. Sue every week and Janice every other. Both have been volunteers since the start of the project in 2015.

Janice was a library member prior to the volunteer take over and was keen to help the library stay open. She feels like she is making a valuable contribution and likes meeting the customers and getting to know the regulars.

Sue is now retired and was looking for something to do and to meet new people when she moved to the village. She says she will often bump into someone she knows from the library when she is in the village.

Janice and Sue socialise with other volunteers from the library when they aren’t working in the library and they enjoy getting together for drinks and quizzes.

Why not pop in to find out more?

Maybe volunteering is for you – we have a range of roles available.
